Tournament of State Champions (9-11) 2018

Saturday, July 28

Game 1 – Tar Heel Little League of Greenville, North Carolina got off to a good start in the Tournament of State Champions as they got past Goodlettsville Little League of Goodlettsville, Tennessee by a count of 5-0.  North Carolina scored 1 in the first, second, and fifth innings and 2 in the third innings for their scoring output.  Ryker Butcher (2-3, 2b), Davis Bradley (2-2), and Parker Watson (2-2, 2 2b) led North Carolina.  James Sawyer (1-2, 2b) provided the other North Carolina hit.  Cooper McCandless (1-3) and Hut Hargrove (1-2) had the other hits for Tennessee.  James Sawyer was the winning pitcher for North Carolina.

Game 2 – Smyrna Little League of Smyrna, Georgia opened TOSC play with a 10-0 win over Martin County North Little League of Palm City, Florida. Georgia scored  1 in the third and then ended the game with 9 runs in the bottom of the fifth.  This game featured a 2 hour and 48 minute rain delay between the fourth and fifth innings.  Three Georgia players had 2 hits apiece to lead their offense.  These players were Bryce Dozier (2-2), Peyton Robidoux (2-3, 2b), and Joel James (2-3). Braden Lightsey (1-2) and Kyle Wright (1-3, 2b) had the other Georgia hits.  Tanner Hughes was 2-2 with a double to lead Florida.  Will Perry (1-2) and Cody Bennin (1-2) had the other Florida hits.  The winning moundsman for Georgia was Joel James.

Game 3 – Northwood Little League of Taylors, South Carolina slipped past Barboursville Little League of Barboursville, West Virginia by a score of 3-2 in the TOSC opener for both teams.  South Carolina opened the scoring with 2 quick runs in the bottom of the first.  West Virginia scored 1 in the third to cut their deficit to 2-1. South Carolina picked up a run in the bottom of the third to go up 3-1.  1 West Virginia run in the top of the fourth cut their deficit to 3-2 and wrapped up the scoring.  Spencer Adderly was 2-2 to lead South Carolina.  Other South Carolina hits came from Gregory Bryant (1-2), Dawson Siffri (1-2, 2b), Brady Smouse (1-2), and Gavin Weidman (1-3).  West Virginia’s 4 hits came from Cade Johnson (1-4, 2b), Corey Otzenberger (1-2, 2b),  Riley Bowles (1-3), and Wyatt Goad (1-2). Teddy Garner was the game’s winning pitcher.

Game 4 – Loudoun South American Little League of Loudoun County, Virginia wrapped up a soggy first day of the TOSC with a 17-1 win over Huntsville International Little League of Huntsville, Alabama.  Virginia scored runs in every inning but the second on their way to the win.  Justin Lee led Virginia by going 3-3 with a double and a home run.  Brady Yates (2-4, 2b) and Michael Bowden (2-2 also had big days.  Liam Thyen (1-4, 2b), Chase Obstgarten (1-4), Maddox Webb (1-3, 2b), Chase Triplett (1-2, 2b), and Nick Ranalli (1-1) also had hits for Virginia.  Justin Lee was the winning pitcher for Virginia.

Day 2

Game 5 – Smyrna Little League of Smyrna, Georgia punched their ticket to the single elimination portion of the Tournament of State Champions as they defeated Northwood Little League of Taylors, South Carolina by a score of 3-1.  Each squad notched a run in the first but 2 Georgia runs in the top of the third was the difference in the ball game.  Robert Hicks was 2-3 with a home run to lead Georgia.  Other Georgia hits came from Braden Lightsey (1-4), Joel James (1-4), Alex Johns (1-3, 2b), and Jordan Miller (1-1).  Gavin Weidman (1-3), Kaleb Nelson (1-2), and Spenser Adderly (1-1) had the hits for South Carolina.  The winning pitcher for Georgia was Peyton Robidoux.

Game 6 – Loudoun South American Little League of Loudoun County, Virginia picked up their second win of the Tournament of State Champions with a 9-8 victory over Tar Heel Little League of Greenville, North Carolina.  With the win Virginia guaranteed themselves a spot in the single elimination portion of the tournament.  North Carolina had a 5-0 advantage after 2 ½ innings of play.  Virginia got themselves back in the game with 4 in the third to make it 5-4 at the game’s midway point.  North Carolina went up 6-4 after 4 innings but a huge Virginia fifth gave them a 7-6 lead going to the sixth.  Each team plated 2 runs in the sixth with the second of Virginia’s two runs being the walkoff winner.  Virginia was led at the plate by Brandy Yates who was 2-2 with a double and Maddox Webb who was 2-4.  Liam Thyen (1-4), Justin Lee (1-2), Michael Bowden (1-2), and Kian Henson (1-1) had the other Virginia hits.  James Sawyer was 3-4 to lead North Carolina.  Three other North Carolina players had 3 hits each.  These players were Davis Bradley (2-4, 2 2b), Max Mason (2-4, 2b), and Jack West (2-2).  Other players for North Carolina with a hit included Justin Grimes (1-4), Parker Watson (1-4), and Ethan Medhus (1-2).  The winning pitcher for Virginia was Maddox Webb.

Day 3

Game 7 – In a make up game from the day before Barboursville, West Virginia scored 3 in the third and 4 in the sixth to take a 7-5 win over Martin County North Little League of Palm City, Florida.  Florida trailed 7-1 going to the bottom of the sixth but scored 4 times and got the tying run to the plate before West Virginia got out of the jam and took the win.  Cade Johnson (2-4, 2b), Corey Otzenberger (2-4), and Cole Ferguson (2-4) all had great days to lead West Virginia.  Bryson Shirkey (1-3) and  Caden Vititoe (1-2) had the other West Virginia hits.  Tanner Hughes (2-4, 2 2b) and Luke Ciliberti (2-4) led the Florida team.  Will Perry (1-3, HR), Caden Kokinda (1-1). Cody Bennin (1-1), and Ryan Baum Jr. (1-1) picked up the other Florida hits.  The winning pitcher for West Virginia was  Caden Vititoe.

Game 8 – In the last make up day of the day Goodlettsville, Tennessee picked up their first win of this year’s TOSC with a 15-0 win over Alabama.  A thirteen run fourth inning was the highlight of the win for Tennessee.  Five Tennessee players had 2 hits each to pace their attack.  These players were Dai Dai Cotton (2-4, 2b), Ty Hutson (2-2), Champ Nix (2-4), Jackson Kennedy (2-2), and Cade Philpot (2-3).  Revin Suggs (1-2), Cooper McCandless (1-3), andTy Frey (1-2) had the other hits for the kids from the Volunteer State.  Will Waites (1-1), Jack Reeves (1-2), Garrett Trousdale (1-2, 2b) had the hits for Alabama.  Cooper McCandless was the mound winner for Tennessee.

Game 9 – Loudoun South American Little League (Virginia) completed an undefeated run through pool play with an 8-2 win over Martin County North Little League of Palm City, Florida.  Virginia’s scoring came in the form of 1 in the first, 4 in the second and 3 in the third.  Florida scored both of their runs in the fifth.  Chase Obstgarten was 2-4 with a double to lead Virginia.  Noah Culpepper (1-1) and Joe Ross (1-1) had the other Virginia hits.  Tanner Hughes went 1-2 for Florida. Kian Henson was the winning pitcher for Virginia.

Game 10 – In a game between two 1-1 teams Goodlettsville, Tennessee advanced to the single elimination portion of the TOSC with their second win of the day as they defeated Barboursville, West Virginia by the score of 11-7.  Goodlettsville scored in every inning they batted in highlighted by a 4 run fifth that broke a 7-7 fifth inning tie.  Tennessee was led by Cooper McCandless who was 2-3.  Dai Dai Cotton (1-3), Revin Suggs (1-3), Ty Frey (1-3), Champ Nix (1-2), Watson Storey (1-2, 2b), and Kajuan Harris (1-1) had the other Tennessee hits.   Riley Bowles (3-4) and Caden Vititoe (3-4) led West Virginia.  Corey Otzenberger (2-3, 2b) and Eli Mcginnis (2-3) had good days with a pair of hits each.  Cade Johnson (1-4), Cole Ferguson (1-3), and Bryson Shirkey (1-4) had the other West Virginia hits.  Watson Storey was the winning pitcher for Tennessee. 

Game 11 – Northwood Little League of Taylors, South Carolina punched their ticket to single elimination Tuesday with a 12-0 win over Huntsville International Little League of Huntsville, Alabama.  South Carolina scored in every inning of a game that saw its later innings played in a steady drizzle.  Gavin Weidman was 2-4 to lead South Carolina.  Seven other players from South Carolina had a hit each.  These players were as follows:  Brady Smouse (1-2), Gregory Bryant (1-2), Nolan Grabiec (1-1), Robert Morse (1-2), Spenser Adderly (1-2), Joel Irizarry (1-2), and Aaron Lopez (1-4, 2b).  Jack Reeves was 1-2 to lead Alabama.  Liam Okuley was the mound winner for South Carolina.

Game 12 – Tar Heel Little League of Greenville, North Carolina defeated Smyrna Little League of Smyrna, Georgia by a score of 6-0.  This game, which began at 10:15 in the evening, was the sixth game of a rain soaked day at Elm Street.  With the win North Carolina was able to move on to the single elimination portion of the tournament.   After a 2 hour and 30 minute delay to the start of the game North Carolina, as the visiting team, came out swinging in the first inning by plating 4 runs.  There was no more scoring in this game until the fifth when North Carolina added 2 insurance runs for their final margin of victory.  Seven North Carolina players had a hit each for their offense.  These players were as follows:  Justin Grimes (1-3, 2b), Ryker Butcher (1-2), Davis Bradley (1-2, 2b), James Sawyer (1-3, 2b), Parker Watson (1-3), Christian LoPresti (1-2), and Ethan Medhus (1-3).  Joel James (2-2) and Alex Johns (1-1) had the hits for Georgia.  The winning pitcher was Matthew Aldridge.

Game 13 – Goodlettsville Little League of Tennessee and Tar Heel Little League of Greenville, North Carolina squared off Tuesday morning in the second quarterfinal game in Tournament of State Champions history (the other being in 2012).  North Carolina earned the right to advance to the semifinals with a 8-1 win.  North Carolina jumped out early with a pair of first inning runs.   They added a run in both the third and fourth innings before putting 4 runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth to reach their final total of 8.  Tennessee scored their lone run in the sixth inning.  Parker Watson (2-3, 2b) and Max Mason (2-2) each had a pair of hits to lead North Carolina.  Justin Grimes (1-3), Davis Bradley (1-1, 2b), James Sawyer (1-3, HR), and Derrion Geddis (1-2) had the other North Carolina hits.  Dai Dai Cotton (1-2) had Tennessee’s only hit.  The winning pitcher was Derrion Geddis was the mound winner for North Carolina.

Game 14 (First Semi Final) – Smyrna Little League of Smyrna, Georgia powered their way to a 12-2 win over Northwood Little League of Taylors, South Carolina.  South Carolina grabbed a quick 1 run advantage going to the bottom of the first.  Georgia went up 2-1 in the bottom of the first while South Carolina was able to tie the game at 2 after an inning and a half.  Georgia scored 6 in the bottom of the second while adding 1 in the fourth and 3 in the fifth to secure the five inning victory.  Alex Johns paced the Georgia offense with a 4-4 performance that included a double.  Braden Lightsey (2-4) and Robert Hicks (2-2) each had a pair of hits for Georgia.  1 hit days for Georgia were had by Joel James (1-2), Peyton Robidoux (1-3), Kyle Wright (1-2), Bryce Dozier (1-2), Jackson Ramon (1-2), and Connor Mason (1-2).  Gavin Weidman (2-3, 2b) led the South Carolina squad.  Brady Smouse (1-3), Dawson Siffri (1-1), Gregory Bryant (1-3), Liam Okuley (1-1), Kaleb Nelson (1-2), Joel Irizarry (1-1) each had a hit to round out the South Carolina offense.  Joel James pitched a complete game to take the win for Georgia.

Game 15 (Second Semi Final) – North Carolina became the first team in TOSC history to win 2 games in one day as they defeated Loudoun South American Little League of South Riding, Virginia by a score of 8-3.  Virginia grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning.  North Carolina answered in the bottom of the second with 5 runs to take a 5-3 advantage after 2 innings.  North Carolina added 3 runs in the bottom of the third and that was all of the scoring for the game.  Six North Carolina players had a hit each to provide their offense.  These players were as follows:  Justin Grimes (1-3), Ryker Butcher (1-2), Davis Bradley (1-2, 2b), Parker Watson (1-2), Max Mason (1-1), and Jack West (1-1).  Justin Lee (2-2, 2 2b) and Maddox Webb (2-3) had the hits for Virginia.  The winning moundsman for North Carolina was James Sawyer.

Game 16 (Championship Game) – The Championship Game of this rain plagued tournament couldn’t pass without a passing  5th inning shower but it made no difference to a determined Smyrna, Georgia team as they defeated Tar Heel Little League of Greenville, North Carolina by a score of 15-4.  The game was knotted at 2 after an inning but it was all Georgia after that.  Georgia went up 5-2 after two innings.  They then added 1 in the third, 3 in the fourth and 6 insurance tallies in the top of the sixth.  North Carolina picked up 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth to round out the scoring.  Georgia’s 10 hit attack was paced by a quartet of players with 2 hits each.  These players were Braden Lightsey (2-4), Robert Hicks (2-4), Alex Johns (2-4), and Kyle Wright (2-4).  Joel James (1-4) and Peyton Robidoux (1-4) had the other Georgia hits.  Davis Bradley was 2-2 to lead North Carolina.  Parker Watson (1-3), Reading Blount (1-2), and Quinn McCaffrey (1-2) picked up the other hits for North Carolina.  Connor Mason was the winning pitcher for Georgia.



Tournament of State Champions (9-11) 2017

Day 1

Game 1 – Laurens Little League of Laurens, South Carolina made some noise in their TOSC debut as they defeated American Legion Post 17 Little League of Gallatin, Tennessee by a score of 9-1.  Tennessee jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after an inning  but South Carolina quickly answered with 3 in the second and 4 in the third to go up 7-1 at the contest’s midway point.  Single runs by South Carolina in the fifth and sixth allowed the youngsters from the Palmetto State rounded out the scoring for the game.  Zay Pulley (1-3, 2b), Owen Pridgen (1-3), Harrison Moore (1-3), EJ Grant (1-4), Brett Young (1-2) and KD Mosely (1-2, HR) split South Carolina’s hits six ways.  Noah Rice (1-3) and Carter Whitefield (1-2) had the hits for Tennessee..  The winning pitcher for South Carolina was Jonah Hogge.

Game 2 – Tar Heel Little League of Greenville, North Carolina slipped past Barboursville Little League of Barboursville, West Virginia by a score of 3-2.  North Carolina scored 3 in the bottom of the third and West Virginia answered with 2 in the top of the fourth for all of the game’s scoring.  West Virginia had 2 runners in scoring position when the game came to an end.  Alex Popovich (1-3), Wyatt Fagundus (1-2), Andrew Wallen (1-2, 2b), and Davis Hathaway (1-1) had the hits for North Carolina.  Carson Carter (1-3), Ethan Blackburn (1-1), Evan Akers (1-1), Cooper Cummings (1-2, 3b), and Jack Eastone (1-2, HR) all picked up hits for West Virginia.  The winning pitcher for North Carolina was Andrew Wallen.

Game 3 – Northern Little League of Columbus, Georgia defeated Huntsville International Little League of Huntsville, Alabama by a score of 18-8 in the pool play opener for both squads.  Lots of scoring and lots of hitting was the theme in this game.  Georgia scored 3 in the first but Alabama was able to answer with 4 in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-3 lead after an inning.  Georgia came back with 3 in the top of the second but the lead was short lived as they allowed Alabama to score 2 in the bottom of the third to knot the game at 6 at the midway point.  Georgia’s offense then exploded in the fifth (4 runs) and sixth (8 runs) to pull away for the win.  Alabama rounded out their scoring by scoring a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth.  Carson Ward (3-4) and Jackson Boatner (3-5) paced the Georgia offense.  Ethan Moss (2-4, 2b) and Ty Jones (2-5) also had solid outings. 5 other Georgia players had a hit each to round out the Georgia offense.  These players were as follows:  Drew Ashton (1-3), Walker Elrod (1-2), Brantley French (1-2), Cole McLemore (1-3), and DJ Brown (1-3). Jacks McClung was 4-4 with a home run to lead Alabama.  Other Alabama hits came from Davis Parker (1-4, 2b), Garner Farrell (1-4), Huck Hensley (1-3), and Sims Bowman (1-2).  Walker Hilton was the winning pitcher for Georgia.

 

Game 4 – Plant City Little League’s (Florida) 3,4,5 hitters combined for 14 RBI as Florida opened the ‘Tournament of State Champions with a 14-3 win over Louisa Little League of Louisa, Virginia.  The game was played in a steady mist.  Anthony Palestrini (3 hitter) was 1-2 with a homer and 6 RBI.  Cleanup hitter Adan Longoria had a big night as well as he was 3-4 with 6 RBI.  Blaine Rowland was 2-3 with a double and a home run to round out the 3,4,5 attack.  Devan Gonzalez (1-2) and CW Watson (1-3) had the other hits for Florida.  Virginia was led by the big bat of Jacob Fifer who was 3-3 with 2 home runs.  LT Thacker  (1-2), Jayden Roach (1-3), and Eli Best (1-3, 2b) had the other hits for Virginia.  Adan Longoria was the mound winner for Florida.

Day 2

Game 5  

Tar Heel Little League of Greenville, North Carolina punched their ticket to the single elimination portion of the TOSC with a 6-5 win over Huntsville International Little League of Huntsville, Alabama.  North Carolina held a 3-0 lead after 2 ½ innings but a big 5 run third by Alabama gave the youngsters from Huntsville a 5-3 lead at the midway point.  Neither team scored in the fourth.  North Carolina pushed two runs across in the fifth to tie the game at 5 and a sixth inning sacrifice fly provided the margin of victory.  North Carolina was led by Andrew Wallen who was 2-2 with 2 home runs.  Josh Britt also had a good day as he was 2-2 with 2 two baggers.  Brody Stallings rounded out the offense for North Carolina by going 1-2.  Jacks McLung was 2-3 with a double and a home run to lead Alabama.  Davis Parker provided the rest of the offense for Alabama as he went 1-3. Alex Popovich was the game’s winning pitcher.

Game 6

Louisa Little League of Louisa, Virginia got in to the pool play win column with a 17-4 win over American Legion Little League of Gallatin, Tennessee.  A trio of Virginians had 3 hits to lead the way.  These players were Shane Dunkum (3-4, 2 2b, 3b), LT Thacker (3-4, 2 2b), and Jayden Roach (3-4, 2b).  Cody Fifer (2-4, HR), Jacob Fifer (2-2), and Eli Best (2-3, 2b) each had fine days as they all had 2 hits.  Connor Downey (1-1), JW Austin (1-2, 2b), and Brady Hopkins (1-2) had the other Virginia hits.  Noah Rice  (2-2, 2b) led Tennessee.  Theron Lee (1-2) and Clark Langley (1-2) had the other hits for Tennessee.  Shane Dunkum was the game’s winning pitcher.

Game 7

Northern Little League of Columbus, Georgia will return to the single elimination portion in the TOSC for the third straight year as they defeated Barboursville Little League of Barboursville, West Virginia by a score of 15-5.  Georgia scored 3 in the first.  They then allowed 5 in the top of the second to trail 5-3 going to the bottom of the second. Georgia scored 3 in the bottom of the second to go up 6-5.  They inched ahead by another run in the bottom of third as they scored 1 to go up 7-5.  Georgia then added 6 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth to secure the win.  Ethan Moss (2-4), Ty Jones (2-4, HR), Carson Ward (2-4), and Brantley French (2-2) all had two hits to lead Georgia.  Walker Elrod (1-2, 2b),  DJ Brown  (1-2, 2b) and Brayden Hagler (1-1) had the other hits.  Jared Nethercutt (2-3) had 2 hits to lead West Virginia.  Carson Carter (1-2), Cooper Cummings (1-2, HR). Aden McCormill (1-3, 2b), and Trevor Lingenfelter (1-2) had the other hits for West Virginia.  The winning pitcher for Georgia was Carson Ward.

Game 8

Plant City Little League of Plant City, Florida is heading to Tuesday’s single elimination portion of the TOSC as they defeated Laurens Little League  of Laurens, South Carolina by a score of 15-4.  Florida got out to a quick 4-0 lead after an inning.  South Carolina narrowed the gap to 4-3 with a 3 run second inning.  Each team plated a run in the third to make the score 5-4 in favor of Florida at the midway point.  The game then turned dramatically in the top of the 4th as Florida plated 10 runs in the top of the fourth to get the win.  Anthony Palestrini was 3-3 with a home run to lead Florida.  Colby Brewington (2-3) and Adan Longoria (2-2) also had great nights.  Other Florida hits came from Deven Gonzalez (1-2, HR), Seth Hogan (1-2, 2b), Austin Trimble (1-2), and James Gray (1-2).  A trio of youngsters from the “Palmetto State” had 2 hits each to pace their attack.  These players were Owen Pridgen (2-2), Harrison Moore (2-2), and Jaedon Goodwin (2-2).  Zay Pulley (1-2) and KD Mosely (1-2)  had the other hits for South Carolina.  Anthony Palestrini was the winning hurler for Florida.

Day 3

Game 9  

Louisa Little League of  Louisa, Virginia completed their climb back in to contention with a  17-11 win over Barboursville, West Virginia in the opener on day 3 of the Tournament of State Champions.  Virginia scored in every inning on their way to the win.  Virginia held a 9-3 at the midway point of the game but a stubborn West Virginia squad wouldn’t give up.  After West Virginia narrowed their deficit to 12-6 after 5 Virginia scored 5 in the top of the sixth to make it 17-6.  West Virginia scored 5 in the bottom of the sixth but that was all they could muster as Virginia took the win.  Virginia’s 14 hit attack was paced by Shane Dunkum who was 4-5 with a home run.  Eli Best also had a big day as he was 3-4 with a home run.  LT Thacker (2-4, 2b, HR) also provided great support. 1 hit was the order of the day for Cody Fifer (1-5), Jacob Fifer (1-4, HR), Jayden Roach (1-4, HR), Chase Luck (1-3), and Brady Hopkins (1-2).  West Virginia was led by 4 players with a pair of hits each.  These player were Carson Carter (2-4), Cooper Cummings (2-3, 2 HR), Jack Eastone (2-3, HR), Aden McCormill (2-4).  1 hit days were had by Jared Nethercutt (1-2), Trevor Lingenfelter (1-4, HR), and Landon Nida (1-2, 2b).  Jayden Roach was the game’s winning pitcher.

Game 10

Northern Little League of Columbus, Georgia completed a perfect run through pool play with a 13-3 win over Laurens Little League of Laurens, South Carolina.  Georgia was down 3-0 after 1 ½ innings but scored 4 in the bottom of the second to take a 4-3 lead.  Georgia tacked on another run in the third to go up 5-3.  A 7 run fourth inning explosion followed by a single run in the bottom of the fifth salted away the victory for Georgia.  Ethan Moss (3-3, 2b, HR) led the Georgia team.  Akhil Gutta (2-3, 2b), Jackson Boatner (2-3), and Walker Hilton (2-3, 2b) provided great support with a pair of hits each.  Drew Ashton (1-4, HR),Walker Elrod (1-2), Cole McLemore (1-1), and Brantley French (1-1) had the remaining Georgia hits.  Harrison Moore was 2-2 with a home run to lead South Carolina.  Owen Pridgen  (1-3), EJ Grant (1-2, 2b), Jaedon Goodwin (1-2, 2b) had the other South Carolina hits.  The winning pitcher  for Georgia was Carson Ward.

Game 11

Plant City, Florida maneuvered their way through pool play with an undefeated mark as they defeated Huntsville, Alabama by a score of 13-4.  Florida led 3-1 at the game’s midway point,   They then scored a run in the top of the fourth to go up 4-1.  A 3 run Alabama uprising in the fourth allowed them to deadlock the game at 4.  It was all Florida though for the rest of the game as Florida scored 4 in the fifth and 5 in the sixth to take the win.  Adan Longoria (3-4, HR, 2b) and  Devan Gonzalez (3-5, 3 HR) all had huge days to lead Florida.  Anthony Palestrini (2-4, HR) and Blaine Rowland (2-2) also had solid outings.  Other hits for the youngsters from the “Sunshine State” came from Colby Brewington (1-3), Tanner Rollyson (1-5), Seth Hogan (1-2), Levi Jordan (1-2), and Austin Trimble (1-2).    Sims Bowman (1-2), Huck Hensley (1-1, HR), and Riley Moss (1-2) had the hits for Alabama.  Tanner Rollyson was the mound winner for Florida.

Game 12

Pool play of the 2017 TOSC for 9-11 year olds concluded with a 12-1 Greenville, North Carolina win over Gallatin, Tennessee.  Each team threatened in the first but neither was able to dent the plate.  The first scoring of the game came when North Carolina plated 6 in the bottom of the second.   Tennessee answered with a run in the top of the third and held North Carolina scoreless in the bottom of the third to make it 6-1 in favor of North Carolina at the game’s midway point.  North Carolina though was able to plate 3 runs in both the 4th and fifth innings to take the win.  North Carolina was led by Alex Popovich who was 4-4 with a double and a home run.  Wyatt Fagundus also had a big day as he was 2-3 with a double and a home run.  Josh Britt (1-2), Spencer West (1-2, 2b), Brody Stallings (1-3, 2b) and Gavin Liverman (1-2, 2b) had the other North Carolina hits.  Tennessee was led by Noah Rice who was 2-3.  Clark Langley also had a big game as he was 2-3 with a double.  Other Tennessee hits came from Theron Lee (1-3) and Amarius Dunn  (1-1).  Davis Hathaway was the winning pitcher for North Carolina.

Day 4

Game 13 (Semi Final)

Plant City Little League  of Plant City, Florida will play in the Championship Game of the 2017 Tournament of State Champions as they defeated Northern Little League of Columbus, Georgia by a score of 9-1.  Anthony Palestrini (2-4, HR).  CW Watson  (2-2, HR) also had a huge outing as did Levi Jordan (2-3).   Devan Gonzalez (1-3), Colby Brewington (1-3), Aidan Longoria (1-1, HR), and Tanner Rollyson (1-3, HR) had the other hits for Florida.  Ethan Moss was 3-3 with a home run to lead Georgia.  Carson Ward (1-2) and Walker Elrod (1-2) had the other hits for Georgia.  The winning pitcher was Aidan Longoria.

Game 14 (Semi Final)

In a game that saw all of its scoring take place in the first 3 innings, Greenville, North Carolina got past Louisa, Virginia by a score of 4-2.  Virginia scored 1 in the first but North Carolina was able to bounce back with 2 of their own to go up 2-1.  North Carolina added another pair of runs in the bottom of the second to go up 4-1.  Virginia sliced into the lead with a third inning run but that was all of the scoring in what ended up being a North Carolina victory.  North Carolina was led by Wyatt Fagundus who was 3-3 with a home run.  Alex Popovich (1-3, HR), Josh Britt (1-3), and Brody Stallings (1-1) had the other North Carolina hits.  Jacob Fifer was 2-3 to lead Virginia.  Shane Dunkum (1-3), Jayden Roach (1-3, HR), and Eli Best (1-2) had the remaining Virginia hits.  The winning pitcher for North Carolina was Alex Popovich.

Game 15 (Championship)

Greenville, North Carolina captured North Carolina's third (Weddington 2011, Wilson 2014) TOSC (9-11) title as they defeated Plant City, Florida by a score of 5-2.  This game was scoreless through 3 innings as both teams had numerous base runners but were unable to dent the plate.  Florida broke in to the scoring column first with a bases loaded walk in the top of the 4th to give the youngsters from the Sunshine State a lead of 1-0.  North Carolina answered in the bottom of the frame with 3 runs giving them a 3-1 lead after 4.  After holding Florida scoreless in the top of the fifth North Carolina tacked on 2 needed insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 5-1.  Florida picked up a single run in the sixth but that was all they could muster as North Carolina held on for the 5-2 victory.  Andrew Wallen was 2-3 with a double to lead North Carolina.  Colin Everette also had a great day as he was 1-2 with a 2 RBI double.  Colin Woolard had a single in 2 trips to round out the North Carolina offense.  Deven Gonzalez was 2-3 to lead the Florida squad.  Aidan Longoria (1-3), Adrian Avelar (1-2), and Levi Jordan (1-2) picked up the other Florida hits.  Andrew Wallen pitched 3.2 innings to take the mound victory.  Colin Woolard pitched 2.1 innings in relief to earn the save for North Carolina.
